Temporary changes to education services

Unfortunately, with no Learning Officer currently in post, we are unable to offer any taught education sessions for school groups at the museum at present. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and hope to resume our education sessions in 2017.

We are very happy to welcome school groups to the Museum for independent visits. Schools can make use of our activity sheets, museum trails and loans boxes (when available) during their visit. If you are interested in arranging an independent visit, please contact the museum on museum@uttlesford.gov.uk or 01799 51033 to discuss your requirements and to book a date.

School Loan Boxes

We have a range of school loan boxes, which can be borrowed by schools to enhance classroom sessions. The boxes contain a mix of real and replica items that can be handled by teachers and students. We are currently reviewing our loan boxes to bring them in line with the curriculum but the following boxes can be borrowed:

Owl

  • Civilian Life in World War II
  • Rocks and Fossils
  • Natural History specimens, including mammals and birds

Loan boxes coming soon include:

  • Ancient Egypt
  • Prehistory
  • Anglo-Saxons and Vikings
  • Local History of Saffron Walden
  • Toys

Loan boxes can be borrowed for a half-term or term, at a cost of £12.

If you would like to book a loan box, or for more information, please contact the museum on museum@uttlesford.gov.uk or 01799 510333.
