The museum’s small but wide-ranging collection of furniture and woodwork features a variety of mostly domestic carved woodwork, dating from the 14th to the 18th centuries. Objects of particular interest include a rare Tudor standing cupboard with relief portraits of its original owners, a Tudor four-poster bed and a series of carved lion heads originally from the seventeenth-century long gallery at Audley End House.
A large collection of carved interior woodwork, including friezes, religious figures and Gothic screens, is on open display in our off-site museum store, which can be visited by appointment.
Objects in our furniture and woodwork collection are on display in the Furniture gallery. Many more objects are kept in storage and can be viewed by appointment.
