Key Stage 1 Workshops
*New* British Prehistory
See and touch real stone tools, bronze and iron weapons and other objects from the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age in Britain. Learn the beginnings of chronology and see what life was like for Britain’s first people.
*New* How Museums Work
Learn about the journey of an object once it is donated to a museum, see inside the museum stores, learn how to write object labels and prepare your own mini exhibition
*New* African Villages
Experience a day in the life of a child living in a typical village in Africa: how they get water, what they wear, what they eat, how they get to school and what they do for fun.
Toys from the Past
Have fun with a collection of old and new dolls, spinning tops and other toys. Discover what toys were like in Victorian times and how they compare with today’s playthings.
Try on unfamiliar clothes and get a taste of the past by looking at domestic objects from a Victorian kitchen. Then, find out how to bath the baby and tackle enormous loads of washing with no plumbing or water supply!
The Five Senses
Find out about your body and how you experience the world.
Use your hands to explore animals and artefacts from many countries and take a ‘bodymap’ back to school as a record of what you touched, smelt, heard and saw. Bring a snack for taste as there aren’t many edible objects in a museum!
